Wermers Properties, a leader in premier multi-family apartment development, has broken ground on the development of a 6-acre site located at the corner of Elk Lane and First Street in Santa Ana, California. The mixed-use project will include 603 apartment homes and commercial space along First Street. The unit mix is comprised of studio, one, two, and three-bedroom units, in addition to live-work spaces with ‘shopkeeper’ style units.

Located adjacent to the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park, the project will make a significant contribution to the revitalization of the Prentice Park neighborhood. The development project will feature natural streetscape elements that blend with the building’s architecture – connecting the residential community with the neighboring Prentice Park. The new residential and commercial development will transform the neighborhood by providing pedestrian connections between the existing neighborhoods and nearly an acre of a central courtyard space. The project features new landscaping, outdoor seating, and gathering locations. Elk Lane will be transformed as well with new landscape, sidewalks, and architectural features that create a gateway to the Santa Ana Zoo while maintaining an exceptional tree-lined “front yard” experience for the adjacent residential community.

“The Elan mixed-use project will further stimulate growth in the Prentice Park area by attracting others to the revitalization of the First Street corridor in Santa Ana. Residents will be drawn to the unique Santa Ana community and enjoy the experience of this upscale living environment blended with the inviting central courtyard, Elk Lane, and the internal private spaces,” said Branden Wermers, Principal of Wermers Properties.

The Elan project will combine its urban surroundings with a contemporary building design that ranges from five to seven stories in height. Equipped with many luxury amenities including resident clubhouses, state-of-the-art gym facilities, yoga studio, cycle storage, two expansive pool decks, and impressive views, residents will be able to utilize and enjoy the community to its fullest extent. Construction began in October of last year and is expecting its first residents in 2022. “We anticipate this development to be transformative for the City of Santa Ana. We are not only providing new housing and commercial opportunities for the community, but we are honored to participate in the rich history of the City of Santa Ana and the renewal of the Prentice Park neighborhood,” said Tom Wermers, CEO of Wermers Properties.
